Ep 22 - How & Why to Fully Active Your Voice

with vocal transformation coach, Saritah

Welcome back!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve sent you all a little note and I’m excited to pop into your inbox this morning with this refreshing episode and some soul-reviving exercises.

Do you often feel like your voice is contracted when you’re trying to speak up to share how you’re feeling, give a presentation, or more daringly, sing in front of other people? Many of us, particularly those who identify as women, have grown accustomed to dimming our voices and silencing ourselves. Well, today we’re continuing our series of Using Creativity to Enhance Your Life - and this time we’re learning how to work through vocal/throat blocks through song.

I know what you’re thinking. Kim, I’m not out here trying to be singer. Well, you’re in luck: you don’t need to be anywhere close to a professional to reap the mental, physical and emotional benefits of singing and basic chanting.

In this episode, I chat with vocal transformation coach and singer-songwriter, Saritah. Saritah not only just released a new single and has toured the globe with her music, but is on a mission to help women unlock their voices through song.

We dive into:

  • Common narratives that keep people from using their voice more fully

  • Practical tips and excercises you can use to bolster your voice when speaking and singing

  • Our own journeys of reclaiming our voices through song

  • The many health benefits that come from humming, chanting & singing

  • A summary of key takeaways to help distill your learnings at the end of the episode

This week’s creativity prompt:

  1. At the end of this episode (47 minutes in) you’ll find this week’s prompt to activate your voice. Saritah walks us through a simple 2-minute guided breath and OM-oriented chant that will help you quickly see the theraputic effects of using your own voice.

  2. For two days this week, try starting out your day singing. Put on a song you love while you’re getting ready or making breakfast and just sing! Belt it out. Let’s be clear here, you don’t need to sound like Beyonce to feel the joy of singing. And Oprah also recommends starting your day with singing to boost mood, so if Oprah vouches for it I think we can try it, eh? Notice if you feel any difference in mood or if you’re body feels lighter in any way. If you’re feeling some benefits, add on a third day and so on.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s newsletter and if you did, pass it along to a friend to help more folks tap into the power and bliss of their voice.

Have a beautiful day!

With love,

Kimberly Gomes

Bonus prompts: If you’re wanting more creativity prompts in your life, I’d also recommend checking out Megan February’s substack. As a writer, I’m been using her prompts often and have been getting so much out of them. They’re very approachable and for all levels. I have a feeling you may enjoy them too.
